Tēnā koe, nau mai, haere mai ki Binks
Binks's mission is to contribute to a sustainable future for New Zealand fashion. I do this by ensuring my garments are sampled, cut and created here in Aotearoa. My goal is to stay small, by simply creating small collections of key pieces composed of natural fibres. Binks garments are staple and versatile with a side of cheekiness and fun which can be worn all year round.
My first collection is a selection of seven garments all made from woven hemp silk fabric. These easy to wear, classic pieces can be worn together or apart and for years to come. They have been designed mindfully and with intent for a long life. I can't wait to work with more natural fibres and for you to join me on my sustainable journey!

He kōrero mōku - About me
How did I get here, you may ask? I grew up in Kapiti and Wanganui and I was fortunate my mother taught me to sew, this is where my journey in fashion began.
Fast forward a few years after completing my degree and working a 9 - 5, I became tired of the lack of colour and creativity among ‘sustainable garments’. My wardrobe hasn’t always been ‘sustainable’ but it has always been full of exaggerated cuts and colours.
Throughout my journey to finding my personal style I quickly realised that a ‘capsule’ wardrobe of shapeless, boxy silhouettes was not for me. Don’t get me wrong, I love a little black dress as much as the next girl but I feel that a pop of colour will never go out of style. I am excited to be sharing my collection of wardrobe staples with you.
Kōaka - Hemp
Hemp is an incredible plant used for a variety of things such as fabric, food, drink, construction materials, paper, cosmetics and bio fuel. It is amazing that one plant can cater to so many industries.
Hemp is a natural fibre, and it is one of the strongest fibres to have ever existed. It is extremely durable and becomes softer with use and washing. It is hypoallergenic and shouldn't irritate sensitive skin. It is breathable, keeping you cool in the summer and warm in the winer. It has antibacterial properties and is odourless.
Hemp is hugely beneficial for our environment because it does not need pesticides and it can flourish naturally on its own. Hemp uses little water and it can be grown effortlessly in most soils and doesn't exhaust soil properties. Hemp plants can reach 4-6 meters tall within four month harvest cycles. It uses half the area of land mass compared to cotton and can generate up to four times the amount of fibre per hectare.

Ōku Tikanga - Values
